Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a specialty that applies various methods and procedures aimed at prevention, treatment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of physical and functional disorders of the bone – muscular, nervous and cardiovascular system.

The purpose of the physical therapy and rehabilitation department is:

  1. Reduction or elimination of pain in the patient.
  2. Increasing the functionality of the bone-muscle system (contracture, spasm).
  3. Improvement of muscle tone and strengthening of muscles.
  4. Creation of correct movement patterns in patients (children, adults) who need it.
  5. Preventive action in the development of the bone-muscle system in children who, under the influence of various internal and external factors (hereditary, bad posture, insufficient physical activity) lead to a disturbance of the statics of the spinal column and the appearance of deformities – Scoliosis or Kyphosis.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation covers many areas of medicine such as: Orthopedics, Traumatology, Rheumatology, Neurology, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, and metabolic disorders such as diabetes and osteoporosis.

When a diagnosis of the disease is made, appropriate physical treatment of the patient is planned by applying physical procedures. which procedure will be prescribed depends on the disease and the condition of the patient.

Physical procedures we use are:

  • Electrotherapy: diodynamic currents, galvanic, interference currents – It is the application of current with a certain frequency and intensity, which achieves the removal of pain, swelling, healing of cuts, strengthening of muscles.
  • Cryotherapy and heat therapy (infrared rays and paraffin gauze)
  • Magnetotherapy – Electrostimulation – Manual massage – Hydrotherapy
  • Kinesitherapy (medical gymnastics) corrective gymnastics – that is, special exercises that strengthen a certain group of muscles, thereby correcting the deformity and increasing movement in the joint.

Physical therapy is applied in 10-20 procedures with different duration, which depends on the age and condition of the patient. The ultimate goal of physical therapy is to increase and improve the patient’s independent functioning and quality of life.
